Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Battery IV cap work?
The IV Cap uses a spring and a miniature ‘diamond’ shaped valve which opens and closes as water is consumed by the battery. The spring and Diamond Valve are incased in water fully protected from any contact from battery acid or mist. This makes the Battery IV cap failproof.
What turns it on and off and when?
The Battery IV’s actuator (on/off switch) is unique to any other design. The ‘trigger’ is not connected to any part of the valve assembly. The BIV float’s buoyancy is unhinged and non-restricted. This design feature eliminates the potential for ‘sticking floats’, making the BIV’s on-off function failproof.
When does water get added to the bottle?
When the floating indicator is below ¼ full, BIV Water should be added.
How often is the bottle topped off?
There is no specific measurement of water use. A battery’s overall size, age and condition, operating temperature and charge rates play a factor. New batteries, charged once daily, may require a weekly top-off, depending on their size. Older fleets of large batteries will require (consume) a greater volume of water.
Why is a BIV Manifold used instead of a cell-to-cell path?
Individual battery cells will consume water at different rates within the same battery. For example, an 80V battery will have up to 12cells located in the middle section of the battery. These cells remain at a higher operating temperature, experiencing great water loss than the outside positioned cells. The Battery iV services each cell individually, maintaining perfect balance across the entire battery.
What if an operation is switching batteries during the day?
The IV is equipped with a quick-disconnect from the Reservoir to the battery. Batteries extracted and placed on charge have perfect water levels. Subsequently, batteries coming off charge are balanced when re-connected to the Battery IV.
Can the Battery IV be used in a freezer or cold storage applications?
No, the Battery IV is not recommended for freezer applications. However, cold-storage applications operating above freezing temperatures are viable.
Is Battery IV Water the only water that can be used?
A Battery IV Water is specifically grade to 99.9% purity and will ensure that no scaling or mineral/chemical reaction will occur affecting the performance of the BIV. Battery IV Water is ordered on-line and delivered in cases, a convenient option. Other distilled water with 99.9% purity claims are acceptable.
Battery IV is compatible on ALL major battery brands.
